An article about body positivity, women empowerment and shapewear.

"If I preach about body positivity and women empowerment, can I use shapewear?"

If you have an Instagram account, you'd probably already saw or even follow hashtags like #bodypositivity, #womenempowerment, or influencers with an "accept your body" flag showing off their real body - with bumps, love handles and cellulite. Nothing wrong here!

But today we saw an Instagram post from a Fitness Influencer that recently became a mother, saying that she received a high-waisted swimwear and gym pants as a gift from a brand. It was not about the products, she says, but with the message that the brand was trying to pass off "hiding" her postpartum belly.

If you follow us for some time now, you know that Slim Coquette is all about body positivity and women empowerment. But how can that be, if we sell shapewear? If everything is high-waisted?!

Because our message is not to "hide". It is to enhance!

We've been assisting a body image rebellion. Women that "accept their body" don't care about shapewear or even makeup, because there's "nothing wrong with how they look". We're pushed to movements where we need to accept body fat and cellulite because all those things are real. And bodies that don't fit here are photoshopped. Yes, 90% of women have cellulite, but is it wrong to not show it? Or take care of it? It's a choice, and that's the real empowerment: to have a choice.

Balance is the key. Even fitness influencers and plus-size models that we see on social networks have bad days. Even they wear high-waisted clothes and wear make-up. Is that not accepting their body?

From our point of view, we should all meet in the middle. You can be a feminist and wear shapewear. You can be slim and wear shapewear. You can be plus-size and wear shapewear. It's all about what you need to feel confident, to feel good, and at peace with what you see in the mirror even with your clothes on. Looking good and feeling good doesn't make you less than a woman and don't take your power. It gives you power!

Because at the end of the day all feminists, body-positivity preachers, fitness gurus, slim or fat are not only women but also humans. And humans have flaws.

Accepted, show it, enhance it, or mask it. It's your body, it's your choice.

Slim Coquette Team.
